With the revolution that biotechnology is bringing about bit by bit in India, we have so many more biotech products and services integrated into our daily lives. Entrepreneurs across India are now delving into so many niche markets using biotechnology. XOME Life is one such conception in the field of personalized nutritional analysis and precision diagnostics. The organization wants to build a healthy and affordable lifestyle for people.
XOME Life is focusing on developing a milk intolerance test kit to help individuals self-diagnose intolerance to milk. Their research reveals that about 70% of the country’s population cannot digest milk and yet they all consume milk or dairy products directly or indirectly. With the help of their milk intolerance test kit, people can easily determine their level of milk intolerance (both sugar and protein).
Who are XOME Life?
XOME Life was founded by Piyush Bhanu in July 2020 out of Bangalore. Their core team includes 5 members and most of them are researchers. This means their products are backed by science and are credible. They’ve chosen the segment of teenagers below 16 years and adults above 50 years as their target customers and rightly so.
What’s cooking at XOME Life?
XOME Life is planning to develop a Food Intolerance Test Kit to increase awareness of the level of intolerance people possess for different food items. Founder Piyush Bhanu explains the significance of the test in an interview, “You cannot digest milk, then your body will identify it as foreign every time you drink milk and develop antibodies against milk and that we can detect in our kit. So, we need to first of all prevent the kids from drinking something that is unhealthy for them and this test will give the parents the confidence to stop milk, and then we can offer better alternatives to milk and serve our customers better.”
Consumption of milk can lead to several diseases namely Diabetes Type-1, Arthritis, Obesity, and Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). People who cannot digest milk are at high risk of getting infected from these diseases. The test kit will have a small panel to test against milk sugar (lactose) and milk protein (casein) along with the pricking needle. Customers can perform the test whenever and wherever they want. Instructions are given with the test kit. XOME Life is planning to launch the test kit by the end of December 2020.
Their preliminary market research reflects that around 90% of people have shown interest in buying their Food Intolerance Test Kit. The team is busy perfecting their flagship product while they try different marketing strategies to educate common people on the need and use of this test kit. In a nutshell, XOME Life hopes to bring health into the hands of the people quite literally with this kit.
COVID-19 has broken the façade of how safe we really are and brought our body’s daily fight with infection and disease to the forefront. Humans have begun to recognize the fragility of health in the midst of a crumbling, global healthcare system. Health has now become the number one priority and this has given a boost to the demand of products and services catering to healthcare making this the right time for XOME Life to launch its Food Intolerance Test Kit in the market. They have also received a grant known as Nidhi Prayas of Rs 10 lakhs in order to develop the prototype and MVP of their test kit. XOME Life also plans to develop a milk alternative for lactose-intolerant customers. Beyond capital, their focus is on networking with the right people in R&D and the manufacturing domain in order to expand their business.
