Funding in Indian Startups (Aug 31 – Sept 5)

In the previous week, 23 Indian startups raised funding, out of which 20 received total funding of $566 million. It was a great week for funding in Indian startups. Among those startups, Unacademy raised the highest funding of about $150 million followed by Eruditus which secured a funding of $113 million. The remaining 3 startups (Trukky, Nirmata, and Virtual Forest) didn’t disclose their funding amount.

Given below is a list of the funding in Indian Startups which were procured from August 31 – September 5.

Unacademy

Unacademy is an online education platform established in 2015 by Roman Saini, Gaurav Munjal, and Hemesh Singh in Bangalore. It is a platform that prepares the students for academic as well as competitive exams including UPSC, CAT, and many more. The company has raised $150 million in a funding round led by SoftBank at a valuation of $1.45 billion. Several other existing investors also took part in the funding round namely Facebook, Sequoia Capital, Nexus Venture Partners, and Blume Ventures.

Gaana

Gaana is an Indian music streaming application that includes Bollywood, Hindi, regional, and international music. It was established by Avinash Mudaliar in 2011 in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The platform has managed to raise $50 million in a fresh funding round led by Tencent along with Times Internet. The platform through its mobile app and website offers free, unlimited, and legal access to all kinds of music.

WinZO Games

WinZO Games is an online gaming platform that offers more than 70 games which includes carom, cricket, bubble shooter, knife up, fantasy league, trivia-based questions, and many more. The gaming platform was established in 2018 by Paavan Nanda and Saumya Singh Rathore in Delhi. WinZO has secured $18 million in Series B funding round led by Makers Fund and New York-based Courtside Ventures.

Dunzo

Dunzo is a local delivery app established by Ankur Aggarwal, Dalvir Suri, Kabeer Biswas, and Mukund Jha in 2015 in Bangalore. It provides delivery services in different cities namely Delhi, Pune, Chennai, Bangalore, Gurgaon, and Hyderabad, and delivers products like groceries, medicines, food among other things. Dunzo has managed to raise $28 million in a funding round led by Google and Lightstone.

Livspace

Livspace, a Bangalore based startup was founded in 2014 by Anuj Srivastava, Ramakant Sharma, and Shagufta Anurag. It is an e-shopping platform through which the clients can connect with the designers in order to find, design, and furnish their dream house. Livespace has managed to raise $90 million in a Series D funding round led by Kharis Capital and Venturi Partners.

Entropik

Entropik is an Emotional AI startup that helps the brands monitor and analyzes the cognitive and emotional responses of consumers towards a product or a particular brand. The platform was founded in 2016 by Bharat Singh, Ranjan Kumar, and Lava Kumar in Bangalore. Entropik has raised $8 million in a Series A funding round led by Alpha Wave Incubation along with some existing investors.

Mfine

Bangalore based health tech startup, Mfine was founded in 2017 by Ajit Narayanan, Ashutosh Lawania, and Prasad Kompalli. It is an AI-Powered online doctor consultation app through which the doctors can connect with the patients, can analyze their symptoms, and provide accurate treatment to them. Mfine has raised $5.3 million in its Series B funding round led by Caretech Pte Inc.

Zomato

Gurgaon based food ordering and delivering startup, Zomato was started in 2008 by Deepinder Goyal, Gaurav Gupta, and Pankaj Chaddah. The app launched by the company has complete detail of all the restaurants starting from menu to the images of food served in particular restaurants. The app also provides the ratings of the particular restaurants making it easy for the user to select the best restaurant or café to order food. Zomato has secured $62 million Temasek Holdings’ MacRitchie Investments.

HomeLane

HomeLane is a Bangalore based home interior startup that was founded in 2014 by Rama Harinath, Sriakanth Iyer, and Vivek Parasuram. The company provides a platform through which the clients can do their home interiors in a more personalized manner. It provides different design catalogs to the customers so that they can get an idea of how to design each corner of their house.

HomeLane has raised $8 million in a bridge funding round led by Stride Ventures. Several other investors also took part in the funding round namely Accel Partners, Sequoia Capital, Evolvence India, and JSW Ventures.

Eruditus

Eruditus Learning Solutions Pvt. Ltd is an edtech startup that was founded in 2010 by Ashwini Damera and Chaitanya Kalipatnapu. The education platform has partnered with more than 30 universities to make education globally accessible and affordable to each and every student. Eruditus has managed to raise $113 million in a Series D funding round led by Naspers and Leeds Illuminate Global Fund. Different other investors also took part in the funding round namely Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), Sequoia Capital, and Ved Capital Evergreen Private Equity.

Apna.co

Apna.co is a platform on which a candidate can easily find and get a job as per their qualification. The recruitment platform was found in 2019 by Nirmit Parikh in Bangalore. It provides different opportunities for the biggest job groups in the country. The company has secured $8 million in Series A funding round led by Lightspeed India and Sequoia Capital India along with Greenoaks Capital and Rocketship.vc.

Quintype

Quintype ensures to be at the digital edge of the publishing technology which includes digital poetry, facebook’s instant articles, semantic analysis, and many more. These things help the publisher in managing the content, managing audience, and content monetization. The company has raised $3.25 million in Series A funding round led from IIFL AMC, a part of IIFL Wealth Management.

Aibono

Aibono, a Bangalore based agritech startup was founded in 2014 by Vivek Rajkumar. The startup helps the farmers to improve yields by the usage of modern data instruments, predictive analytics, and improved processes. The company has managed to raise a funding of $2 million from Rebright Partners, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Venture Capital, and Lesing Artha.

SenseHawk

SenseHawk, an Indian startup  is concerned with the development, construction, and maintenance of solar assets. The company was started in 2018 in Bangalore by Rahul Sankhe and Swarup Mavanoor. Solar software startup has raised a $5.1 million Series A funding round.

Railofy

Railofy, a startup that provides complete protection to the passengers travelling by train against waitlist (WL) and reservation against cancellation (RAC). The company was founded by Rohan Dedhia, Vaibhav Saraf, and Hrishabh Sanghvi in September 2019. The portal allows the passengers to purchase the protection against their ticket which ranges from Rs.50 – Rs. 200It has managed to raise $0.9 million in its seed funding round from Chiratae Ventures.

Koye

Koye Pharmaceuticals is a Mumbai based startup by Preetish Toraskar and Ravindra Shenoy. It has more than 400 ambassadors who meet up more than 50,000 doctors every month to provide the care that exceeds expectations. The company has raised $4.11 million from non-banking financial company BlackSoil Capital Pvt. Ltd.

boAt

boAt, a Mumbai based lifestyle brand was established in 2016 by Aman Gupta and Sameer Mehta. The company offers different electronic goods such as earphones, headphones, speakers, travel chargers, and others. It has managed to raise a funding of $3.43 million in indebted funding from Inno Ven Capital.

Trulymadly

Trulymadly, a Delhi based dating platform was founded in 2013 by Hitesh Dhingra, Rahul Kuma, and Sachin Bhatia. It is a platform that brings all the single people together on the basis of psychological matching and common interests. The dating platform has raised $1.1 million in Pre Series Funding round led by Angel List, Inflection Point (IP) Ventures, and The Chennai Angels.

Ultraviolette Automotive

Ultraviolette Automotive Pvt Ltd. is a Bangalore based startup that was established in December 2014 by Narayan Subramanium and Niraj Rajmohan. It is a technology startup that works on electric two-wheelers and energy infrastructure. The company has managed to raise $4 million in a Series B funding round led by TVS Motor Company.
