Byju’s acquires WhiteHat Jr

Byju’s announced the acquisition of Whitehat Jr in $300 million in an all-cash transaction. This acquisition emphasizes the government’s push for digital skills which includes coding, from early classes according to the New Education Policy (NEP), 2020. Whitehat Jr’s design of coding programmes, along with the instructions given by the mentors and the guidance provided by Byju’s, will help in the expansion of the learning opportunities for school students.   

Whitehat Jr is a Mumbai-based, edutech startup founded by Karan Bajaj in December 2018 which focuses on teaching coding to children. The online stage is made for youngsters (6 -18 years) to help them learn the basics of programming in order to encourage them to create games, animations, and applications using the fundamentals of coding.

Byju’s acquisition will also focus on the expansion of the team of female mentors under Whitehat Jr. Byju’s is planning to create personalized learning programmes, live classes, and doubt solving sessions for students.

About Whitehat Jr

Whitehat Jr focuses on encouraging youngsters to see themselves as creators so that they can become creators and not technology consumers. The startup professes to witness a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 68%, an understudy restoration rate of more than 75%, and a discount rate of under 3%, which is uncommon with regards to edutech or customer web organizations in India. 

The startup group consists of three engineers, three educational plan designers, and one graphic designer, and within a duration of 18 months, the total strength of the team has crossed the mark of 300. The curriculum offered by Whitehat Jr is divided into four different categories namely Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Professional according to the different age groups.  

The organization began with a coding education plan for youngsters in Grades 1 – 7, which incorporates 35-40 minutes of online live classes. These classes progress to teach fundamental block coding and language structure coding to children when they start understanding the logic. It also launched an educational plan for students of Grades 10-12 which includes learning python calculations, man-made brainpower, and building undeniable applications.

The organization is presently planning to expand its business in other developed countries like Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Coding is the skill of the future and the organization is strictly committed to creating an entire generation of students into a team of digital entrepreneurs.

Acquisition of Whitehat Jr by Byju’s

Technology is at the focal point of each human communication today and Whitehat Jr has designed a coding educational plan that was being conveyed live in order to connect both the students and the teachers like never before. The Mumbai-based organization, which last brought capital up from Silicon Valley-based speculator Owl Ventures, Omidyar Network, and Nexus Venture Partners, has to date raised somewhat over $11 million over its seed and Series A rounds. This is one of the largest acquisition made by Byju’s, both the companies were in talks for about 4-5 weeks.  

The procurement will permit Byju’s to teach coding to youngsters, a specialty, yet quickly developing portion among the students of K-12 in the more extensive edutech segment. Byju’s will reach new monetary heights after this acquisition and expand its reach across borders. It has doubled its revenue from Rs 1430 crore to Rs. 2800 crore in 2019-20. The acquisition will help Byju’s’ in contributing to pushing coding abilities from early classes in accordance with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
